Introduction to Bid Management and Procurement

Goal: Understand the basics of bid management and public sector procurement.

Introduction to Bid Management: Learn the fundamentals of bid writing and how it fits within the broader business development process.

Understanding Public Sector Procurement: Dive into the key aspects of public sector procurement, focusing on compliance and the procurement lifecycle.

Pipeline and Tender Search: Learn how to conduct tender searches and build opportunity pipelines effectively.

Activities:

Task: Undertake a tender search and build your own opportunity pipeline, tracking key deadlines and opportunities.

Resource: Tender search template and introduction to public sector procurement guide.

Week 2

Mastering Bid Compliance and Structure

Goal: Learn the essentials of creating compliant and competitive bids.

Bid Writing Structure: Learn how to structure a bid response, focusing on compliance, meeting client requirements, and delivering value. 

Boilerplate Documents: Understand how to use pre-prepared content like company credentials, case studies, and pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) to build a bid efficiently. 

Tender Portals and Submission: Explore how to use tender portals effectively for submitting bids.

Activities:

Task: Review and modify boilerplate content to match a client’s specific needs. Submit your bid through a tender portal simulation.

Resource: Bid compliance checklist and boilerplate document examples.

Week 3

Bid Strategy, Planning, and Client Communication

Goal: Develop strategic thinking, planning skills, and effective communication with clients.

Bid/No-Bid Decision Making: Learn how to evaluate opportunities and decide whether they align with your goals and resources. 

Storyboarding and Bid Planning: Discover the role of storyboarding in bid planning and learn to manage timelines for successful submissions.

Client Communication and Management: Understand the importance of managing client expectations and maintaining high-quality communication throughout the bid process. 

Activities:

Task: Participate in a simulated client kickoff meeting and create a storyboard for a bid.

Resource: Storyboarding template and communication guide.

Week 4

Advanced Writing and Research Skills

Goal: Hone writing skills, focusing on clarity, persuasion, and tailoring content to client needs.

Writing Techniques: Learn how to write compelling, client-focused responses by using active voice, benefit-driven statements, and evidence. 

Bid Research and Gap Analysis: Gain the skills to research a client's needs and perform gap analysis to identify content gaps in your bids.

Editing and Proofreading: Refine your work with proofreading techniques and self-check processes to ensure high-quality submissions.

Activities:

Task: Complete a gap analysis on a mock bid and revise it based on feedback.

Resource: Writing style guide and proofreading checklist.

Week 5

Tools, Templates, and Visual Design

Goal: Learn how to leverage tools, templates, and design elements to produce professional, visually appealing bids.

Bid Management Systems: Get hands-on experience with bid management tools and content libraries to streamline your work. 

Bid Design and Visuals: Understand the basics of bid design, including using visuals to support your written content.

Knowledge Management: Learn to build and manage a bid library, which helps streamline the creation of future bids.

Activities:

Task: Create a visually compelling bid, incorporating charts, graphs, and other design elements.

Resource: Access to bid management software trial and design templates.

Week 6

Final Bid Project and Mentoring

Goal: Apply everything learned to a final project and receive personalised feedback.

Final Bid Submission: Use all the tools, templates, and skills you’ve gained to complete a full bid submission. This will be reviewed and critiqued by mentors. 

Mentoring and Career Support: Receive one-on-one feedback on your final bid, as well as career advice for entering the bid management industry. We will also discuss how to start building your career in freelance bid writing, including pricing strategies and client sourcing.

Activities:

Task: Submit a complete bid project and attend a feedback session with your mentor

Resource: Final bid checklist and personal career development guide.
